Biography
My research interests include film theories of sexuality and gesture; theories and philosophies of colour and perception; the films of Nicolas Roeg, Andrea Arnold and Lynne Ramsay; historiography and the fantastic in narratives of early 1900s scientific expedition films and their public exhibition (photography, film, magic lantern slides); the archival life of film. My publications include articles in Screen, Paragraph, and the Journal for Cultural Research. I have co-edited books on Gesture and Film: Signalling New Critical Perspectives (Routledge 2017) and Colour and the Moving Image (Routledge, 2013). My monograph Film Theories and Philosophies of Colour (Routledge) formulates an innovative approach to thinking about colour for film theories of perception, sexuality and subjectivity.
